James Knox, MSN, PMHNP-BC

James “Jim” Knox, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with over 33 years of experience. He currently serves patients at Sunshine Psychiatry in Fort Myers, Florida. 

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jim moved to Illinois to attend college. Later, he moved to Virginia for his graduate program before settling in Southwest Florida in 1988. He received his graduate degree from the Medical College of Virginia that same year and his post-master’s certificate from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

Dedicated to the improvement of not only his patients’ lives but that of his fellow healthcare workers, Jim published an article in the Europe PMC titled:  

“Direct reimbursement to nurse practitioners: the importance of the Federal Employees Health Care Freedom of Choice Act (H.R. 382)”.

When not at the office, Jim enjoys running and working on cars. His years of experience, especially in pediatrics, bring valued skills to serve the Fort Myers community better. His experience includes time with the Lee County Department of Health for child care, private practice, outpatient psychiatry, and Home Health services. He currently lives in Cape Coral with his wife, two children, and grandson.
